Sama Vritti-Box Breath

As part of every Yoga class I teach breathing exercises (pranayama)

The name ‘Breathe Yoga’ wasn’t just plucked out a hat. As an Asthmatic I have previously struggled for breath and have used nebulisers, steroids and antibiotics. But since doing regular breath work I haven’t needed additional medication in over 2years.

So how does it work?

We take on average 20,000 breaths a day. How many of those are you conscious of?

The slow holding of breath allows CO2 to build up in the blood. An increased blood CO2 enhances the cardio-inhibitory response of the vagus nerve when you exhale and stimulates your parasympathetic system. This produces a calm and relaxed feeling in the mind and body.

Breath work increases your lung capacity & opens the chest muscles, which encourages better breathing. It could also teach you to control breathing and reduce stress, a common trigger of asthma symptoms.

So why not take 10 minutes and focus on your breath.

Namaste 🙏
